The IZOD name is famous in golf and tennis circles, as the brand dates back more than 60 years at retail. Its most famous era was the more than 30 years it was teamed as the IZOD Lacoste brand in an arrangement with a French firm using the name of the noted French tennis player Rene Lacoste. Lacoste's signature is the "Alligator" logo that took the fashion market for knit shirts by storm beginning in the 1950s. The IZOD retail line severed its ties with Lacoste in 2001, and the French firm still independently markets product under the Lacoste name.
Today IZOD remains a powerful force in knit shirts, vests, and shorts in the spring, as well as fleece, sweaters and khakis in the fall. It is a brand for all seasons.
